Cash Rewards Credit Card

The days of paying for all your purchases with cold cash are slowly becoming things of the past. Today, most transactions are done electronically, by means of automatic debit cards or through the use of plastic money or what are more known as credit cards.

For the uninformed, credit cards are little strips of plastic about the same size of a standard business card. These cards are usually issued by banks and with each card, come a specified credit limit, an amount which the bank or financial institution is willing to advance to the customer. At the end of each month, the bank will bill the card holder the amount he "advanced". If he is unable to pay the amount he advanced in full, he will be charged a certain amount as interest. He will still be able to pay by credit, provided that he hasn’t maxed out the card.

Having a credit card is fun because you don’t need to carry large wads of cash everywhere you go. The hard part comes at the end of each billing cycle, when you are faced with your credit card bill. This experience turns off many a card user thus; opt to just conduct their businesses the traditional way.

In order to make paying with and paying your credit cards less of an ordeal, card companies have opted to put something extra in their services, thus the introduction of rewards programs for certain cards. Card holders of this specific kind of credit cards are automatically enrolled in these programs. With these programs, the credit card companies are giving something back to their loyal subscribers.

Credit cards offer various kinds of rewards programs, the most common of which are those that offer rebate points on every dollar amount purchased through your credit card. The points are accumulated and when you receive your bill, you will also receive a small catalogue showing the items you can claim depending on the points you have. For frequent travelers (or those who dream of traveling), there are travel cards which reward each dollar purchase either with mileage points or still, rewards points that could be used for seat upgrades. There are also credit cards that, on top of the standard rebates given, give much higher rebates on specific purchases such as gasoline or medicine.

Other cards may not give outright rebates, but if these are used at partner establishments, the user may get discounts or freebies not usually given to ordinary patrons. There are several rewards programs offered to the consumer. It’s up to you to decide which would most benefit your lifestyle and your preferences.

Others may say that rewards programs are just marketing ploys of card companies to encourage more people to spend more than they earn. This is not necessarily true. Card companies are aware of the rising costs of living and that everyone is looking for means and ways to get the most out of their money.
